The licensed trade can be a challenging and excellent career. The rewards will reflect the amount of resource you are prepared to invest. Working in this environment will require you to make a considerable commitment and you need to consider the effect this may have on your partner and children as their support will be vital to your success

What options do you have to run a pub?

Pub Manager - Many pub companies employ managers to run outlets on their estate. The managers are employed by the PubCo on an annual salary and bonus package, in return you work to achieve the company's sales targets for your outlet (All product is supplied by the parent company).

It is a great way to learn the ropes as you will generally receive support from head office for all the training, promotional and merchandising materials you will need as well as being free from the nitty gritty of running your own payroll and accounting system.

There is still room for exceptional operators to 'shine' but generally you will lack the business development freedom associated with a tenancy or lease. It's ideal if you are not sure this is the job for you and a great way to enter the trade if you have no money to invest
